Elim text—Harmonising Latin and Malayalam

This project aims to create a harmonised multi-script typeface family for South-Asian scripts for digital environments. The typeface primarily tackles the scarcity of freely available multi-weight OpenType text typefaces in the Malayalam script with a Latin counterpart. It also introduces an experimental cursive style of Malayalam that acts like an italic to the upright.

The typeface should function well for immersive reading on the web, typesetting multi-script blogs, academic writings, and online document editing in applications like Google Docs and Notion. Since the design is focused on body text usage on screens, the optimal type size would be around 8 to 16 pts.

The project covers Malayalam and Latin but aspires to expand to other South Asian writing systems like Devanagari and Arabic.
